Problem syncing (Report ID 109434251)
Hi, For the last two days I've been receiving error messages and unable to complete a sync. Could someone please advise me on what I should do? Thanks!

I would really appreciate some help, guys. It's not syncing... and I use this Zotero account on three other computers...
Thanks.
And then:
2) Find that file on the other machine and either the delete associated item in Zotero or delete the long file and modify the main HTML file to force it to resync without the long file.
or
3) On the computer throwing the error, try moving your Zotero data directory higher up in your filesystem. Long filenames generally shouldn't cause a problem, but they might on Windows if the Zotero data directory is deep in the filesystem. Zotero is supposed to warn you about that or deal with it, but it might not in some cases (which is why I asked you for the Debug ID).
Thanks. I did what you said - The Debug ID is D1169447810.
I don't understand your second comment. I'm using Windows 7. Is there something else I should do?
Thanks!
Adam
(sorry if these are stupid questions - I'm not very good with computers)
I appreciate your help.
does that mean that the problematic file is a) not currently on this computer and b) on one of the other computers linked to this account. The idea being that Zotero is having trouble downloading it onto this computer from the server?
I wonder if it's caused by subdirectories that I created in Zotero. I only have a max of 5 levels of subfolders , though.
But, basically, find that file (which might already have a shortened filename) within your Zotero data directory on a computer that's not generating the sync error—in other words, that's already successfully synced, and on which Zotero already shortened the filename as it's supposed to—and then edit the main HTML file (which you can locate from Zotero) and sync again.
If this is too complicated, just delete the attachment in Zotero. It's not worth putting in too much effort for a single attachment. You can always save the an HTML-only version of the attachment from Firefox and reimport just that single file.
Subcollections in Zotero have nothing to do with the filename.
I'll have to wait until Monday to check on the other one at work.
Thanks.
1) So, the same error that occurred on my desktop at home (the one I posted about 2 days ago) occurred on my laptop at work (also running Windows 7 and the latest version of Zotero). Strangely, the error did not seem to occur on my desktop at work (running Windows XP and the latest version of Zotero), but I'm not sure if it synced or not - the green arrow just kept spinning (for 7 hours straight) and the download progress bar never showed up.
2) As you instructed me, I tried searching for the file that showed up in the original error message and it did not exist on any of the three computers' hard drives. (Incidentally, the "w6nCgMKjw6jCvMKJw6Cv...." file name doesn't end in an extension; are you sure it is a file?) I also couldnt find the storage.js file or nsIZipReader.extract file.
Is there anything else that can be done? Or should I cancel my online storage account, start over, and transfer files the old fashioned way (flash drive) from now on?
Please advise. Thanks!
Adam
If there are images you really want, you might try saving as "Web Page, complete" and hoping that Firefox throws out more of the stuff that's interfering with the sync, but that's less sure to work.
Or if you don't care about the document, just delete it and don't worry about it. No.
I'm going to let you do it, since for some reason I am completely incompetent when it comes to finding zotero files. I located the folder via Windows search, but can't find an html file in it. It seems to just be jpegs, pngs, gifs, and a bunch of empty folders.
I am surprised to hear you say that this is the problem folder - as based on the pngs in it, this folder contains an article in Japanese business magazine that I downloaded more than a month ago... I'm not sure why the problem would occur now.
I had thought that the problem might be a file I saved from Aviation Week & Space Technology via EBSCOHost, since that was what I last recall doing prior to Zotero going on the fritz, but I guess not.
Oh well. Please do what you need to do.
Thanks alot.

So, what's the lesson here? What did I do that caused this problem and how can I (and anybody else who is reading this thread) avoid making the same mistake in the future?
Adam
trying to sync my bibliography at work (zotero 2.1.8, firefox 5.0, windows server 2008) I am experiencing a similar problem like akira4489. I just reported the error (ID 2135295400) and pasted the main parts of the output below.
I tried to find the respective file, UGVvcGxlJ3M..., at my Windows Vista Computer at home (not the one which reports the error) but without success. Can anyone give me please some advice on how to identify the directory which contains the problematic file in order to delete it? In the above thread it is the directory 2QIWEID4 - but how do I know it from the error message? Is it possible?
Many thanks in advance,
Best, Georg
