Issues with MS Word 2010

I am using :
Zotero 2.0.3
Firefox Portable
(Was) using Zotero Word Plugin 3.0a4
Windows 7


My original problem is that the Zotero toolbar was not showing up at all in Word. I followed the advice in this thread: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/11777/zotero-word-2010-plugin-is-not-working/ by adding Zotero into the Add-Ins section of Word. However I need to do this each time I start up Word.

The second (more urgent issue) is that when I click on any button on the Zotero toolbar in Word; I get an error box saying "Zotero experienced an error updating your document".

I have restarted Word, Firefox and my laptop numerous times today and re-installed the plug in too. Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • As I say in that thread, you should never need to add the template to the Add-ins section manually. (And what do you mean by that, exactly? What are you doing?) If you do, the template isn't in the directory specified in that window or there's something wrong with your Word installation.
  • Additionally, to allow us to diagnose your error message, you need to generate a report ID after triggering the error dialog but before restarting Zotero. There are no errors listed in the report above.
  • @Dan - I do so by going to Word 2010 Home>>Options>>Manage Word Add Ins>>Select Word Add Ins from a dropdown menu>>brings up Template box which has Zotero unchecked. As for the installation, I can't comment on that because my SO carried that task out.

    @Simon - Since I posted I have uninstalled Word 2010 and gone back to Word 2007. Zotero is working fine with that. From what I've seen of previous posts, perhaps Zotero needs tweaked for Word 2010.

    On a sidenote, I have tested it with OpenOffice and it worked fine with that.
  • We can't "tweak" Zotero for Word 2010 unless we can get more information, since it works properly on our Word 2010 test systems.
