zotero toolbar

I'm new to Zotero and when I open it I don't have what shows on your information page. I get My library etc. but don't get the whole page. I also do not have a Zotero toolbar showing. I'm running a Mac OS X 10.6.4
I have saved a list of journal articles but need to be able to create citations.

sorry if these questions seem basic.
A.
  • The plugin for Word or Open Office you need to install separately:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation
Note that it's not a toolbar if you're using Word 2008
    http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/no_toolbar_in_word_2008_plugin

I don't know what you mean by "don't get the whole page" - if that's something you actually need, be more specific in what you're missing, and/or take a screenshot, upload it to a free image hosting site and link to it from here.
  • Thank you for the answer. Sorry, I'm not a tech person so this is frustrating.

Here is the screenshot of the page I get when I open Zotero - it is not the one that you show on the video. How do I get the full screen?

Can you also explain the shortcuts in your explanation? I figure that ^ is shift, but what is the next symbol?
  • you have the same misunderstanding of Zotero as the user here:

in your screenshot I don't see a status bar, you probably need to enable that in the View menu of Zotero.

The shortcuts are standard Mac shortcuts I gues - like shift-command of shift-option? - I don't use a Mac - but that's a screenshot, so you can also just use that menu, no need for the shortcuts.
  • I think you've hit on part of the problem - I do not have a Zotero View menu or status bar and can't figure out how to get them to show. When I open Zotero, all I see is the above page.
  • Sorry - that should read the View menu and status bar of Firefox - you clearly do have the view menu.
Once you see your status bar, click on the Zotero icon in the right of your screen (bottom right of your screen).

Did you follow the link above?

To re-iterate - your screenshot suggests that you have a fundamental misconception about using Zotero. Working with Zotero has nothing to do with going to a specific page - you do not need to go to www.zotero.org to access your library. Your Zotero library sits on your computer. You will see the Zotero logo on the bottom right whenever you open your Firefox (as long as you have it set to show the status bar).
