Syncing error

I am having trouble syncing to the Zotero server. Report ID is 1005765252
  • dstillman Zotero Team
    Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIFile.lastModifiedTime]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/storage.js :: anonymous :: line 542
    Is this a local drive or a USB drive?

    Do you have security software installed? If so, try disabling it.

    And see http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/9209/recurrent-error-when-syncing/#Item_5 for instructions on checking for read-only files.
  • I'm not sure what (or where) that last line is referring to, but I have Zotero set to save in the Mozilla folder and that folder is on my C drive. I don't have any USB drives connected and don't believe that anything is set to save automatically to my network drive.
    I turned off Symantec and still cannot sync. This is a more recent error report, not sure if it differs at all: 1795525311

    Thanks

    I'm not sure what (or where) that last line is referring to
    It's referring to my post at that location in the other thread...
  • Sorry, I meant that I don't know what/where this line refers to:
    "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/storage.js :: anonymous :: line 542"
  • That's the error that Dan found in your error report -- he posted it for reference, and you needn't know what it means.
  • I read over that post that you linked to and I ran a 'debug' report (D910033464). The last file it appears to reference is "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/utilities.js". However, I cannot find such a file on my computer. Is this the file I should be looking for or another one? What should I do next?

    No, search for "Mod time didn't match" in the debug output. The file in question is listed on that line and the line above.
  • The key part of Dan's post in the other thread is:
    Generate debug output for the sync attempt, click the View button from the Advanced pane of the prefs, and search for the last instance of "Mod time didn't match" and see the file in question.
    There should be a file name that has "/storage/" somewhere in it near the last instance of "Mod time didn't match" in the debug log. The file at that location on your computer might be marked read-only. Check if it is and make it not read-only.
  • I found the two files that were causing errors and deleted them - did so before I read that last note about making them read-only. The syncing appears to be working correctly now.
    Thanks for all your help!
