Error updating document in Word 2008 for Mac

Report ID: 1568763207

I tried to update a document I have been working on for a few days by including a new citation. The document already has several citations and a bibliography. When I tried to insert this new citation I was able to go to the Zotero insert citation menu and choose the reference I was interested. When I clicked OK to add the citation I received the following error message: 'Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
UnicodeEncoderError: 'charmap' codec can't encode character u'\u200e' in position 393: character maps to <undefined>'

Any ideas?

I have tried copying the contents of the document onto a new document and I am able to insert the citation, but only if I delete the bibliography. Then if I try to insert the bibliography I receive the same message.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

  • @adamsmith:

The first thing I tried to do was run through the debug routine (should have mentioned that). Could not solve it using that routine alone.
  • Can you isolate a particular citation that is causing this? Try removing citations until the bibliography will insert without errors.

My guess is that some very odd character is getting mangled somehow-- if we can narrow things down and figure out what, perhaps it can be fixed.
  • Thanks for the help, guys.

I don't know if this had anything to do with the problem, but I have endnote installed in my machine. I removed the endnote plugin from word and went through the zotero debugging routine again. To my surprise things worked out after that!
