Tags not coming through in sync to group library

I am working on getting a group library (ultimately records of about 600 books, but starting with just 30 to experiment) together. When I copy from My Library to Group Libraries, the tags for each book are not coming through online; only the basic information under "info" is coming through to the group library when I look at it online. (You can see the tags fine in Group Libraries on my own machine).

Is there a way to be able to see the tags in the Group Library online?
  • Tags aren't yet visible on the website.
  • Ok, then.

    Thanks, Dan.
  • Any idea on when or if tags will be part of the website? It's not just that they are invisible, it's also that they get left behind when they move from my machine to the group library on the website. When I bring something from the group library back on to my machine, no tags come along.

Bring something back how? Saving via the URL bar? I don't believe the zotero.org translator currently supports tags, but that doesn't really have anything to do with group libraries.

Tags should certainly be transferred to other members of the group.

(Really there needs to be a distinction between user tags and global tags, with the former not being transferred to group libraries, but they're all transferred now.)
  • Hi,

I was just curious to see if this problem has been solved? Is there a way to show/sort by tags in the group libraries....or is there an alternative way to do this on zotero?

    Thank you!
  • There's nothing to solve: the zotero client already allows you to sort/search tags for your personal libraries and the libraries of groups you are a member of.

It appears that CFFrost was downloading references manually from the online library for the group. This is not what you want to do if you're a member of the group. And, as Dan indicated, the lack of the feature on the libraries shown on the website has absolutely nothing to do with groups.
  • Hello Noksagt,

I think I understand what you're saying (that if we're syncing to our personal machines, we can always access the tags on our local machine), but part of the joy of having the zotero data in the cloud is the ability to access our zotero databases from anywhere, and from any machine, whether it has Zotero, and our personal library, installed or not.

For example, I teach at a community college, and want to show students resources during class. I'm encouraging all the students to participate in our zotero group.

I have a computer with a projector in the class that enables me to call up primary source documents, images, maps, etc. It would be great if I could just tag resources with a label I want to apply to that particular class session. Then, I could go to the computer in the classroom, link to my zotero group in the cloud, and choose my tag for that class session. There are workarounds for that problem, but say a topic comes up during class and I remember I tagged an item in the group library. If I could search the tags, it would be easy. But right now, I don't know how to find it via the group interface.

I can't just sync my personal zotero library to that machine at the college, both because many professors use it, and because it's automatically wiped of any changes at the end of each day by the IT department's scripts.

If I'm missing something, please let me know.
