A web page for which the snapshot feature fails

Hi,

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/index?cc=3436 is an example of a page for which the snapshot feature fails to capture anything meaningful. I'm not sure why.

Cheers,

Andrew
  • The page itself is being saved (you'll find it in the zotero/storage folder), but something is causing the connection to remain open (the same reason it keeps showing "Transferring data from..." in the status bar when viewing the page), so Zotero doesn't know when to complete the saving process.

I've changed the way Zotero determines completion to a method that does work on this page. Assuming this doesn't affect snapshot saving in other cases, the fix will be included in the next release.

    Thanks for the bug report.
  • I haven't been able to get a snapshot of an OED page (any). http://dictionary.oed.com/
I click the snapshot button, and nothing happens. I can create a note from the webpage, but if I right click to attach a snapshot, nothing happens. Also, the note doesn't contain the selected text.

I've restarted Firefox, and checked to make sure Zotero and Firefox are up to date.

    Best,

  • UPDATE on OED behaviour:
Okay, the first problem is the new behaviour when clicking on "Make note from selection." I figured that out. What I find very confusing is how when I am in a subfolder, and create a note from a selection, Zotero jumps to the library and shows the item there.

However, when I select what I want to make a note of in the OED, and right click to "Create Zotero Item and Note from selection", the note is empty. I think this is a problem with OED's frames.

    Thanks!

  • When I get a snapshot of a pdf file from the American Chemical Society (http://pubs.acs.org/), and try to open it after, I get a error message "the name of the file don't start with %pdf".
Normally I import my previously saved pdf in Zotero by asking to create a entry for this page. In this case, no problem to open the pdf after, and the name of the pdf don't start by '%pdf' in the storage folder.

    Thanks again.

Another website where the snapshot function doesn't work correctly is for example http://www.heise.de/tp/r4/artikel/25/25274/1.html.

Although there's no problem saving the page, loading it leads to an output like GIF89... in the browser window.

Trying to open the html file directly out of it's storage directory linux suggests that the html file seems to be a gif according to its content.

This problem only occurs by making a snapshot of a website with a single article. The overview http://www.heise.de/tp/ can be saved and loaded without any problems.

  • The webpage the snapshot fails for me is cbc.ca ... is it the same issue as the soccernet one?
  • i have the same problem of kaesersoze, i can't get a snapshot of pdf files from the American Chemical Society, the same error message appears.
  • I too have the ACS problem. It's a big one for me, considering 80-90% of my journal articles come out of the ACS.
  • As of April 21st, 2010, I can not make a snapshots of cbc.ca. When I go to view the snapshot I get: "The attached file could not be found. It may have been moved or deleted outside of Zotero." It seems to be the only site that behaves like that for me, as all other snapshots turn out ok.
    Any way to fix this?
