Macword Integration

Have downloaded the facility for adding citations and bibliographies in MacWord2008. When I try to reinstall word components in preferences an error occurs. any advice?
  • I have followed all of the steps as detailed below and I am still getting the same error message when I try to reinstall the word components.

The error message reads as follows:

Finder got an error:Can't get alias."MacintoshHD:Users:kirstymcpheely:Library:Application:Support:Firefox:Profiles:bkycgbgt.default:extensions:zoteraMacWordIntegration@zotero.org:install.scpt

Theses are the steps that I followed - I uninstalled and reinstalled everything from scratch:

    Mac OS X

The latest version of the Mac Word plugin for Zotero 2.0 is 3.0b2. The plugin is compatible with Word 2004 and 2008 and OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or newer:

    1.
    Install PythonExt:
    *
Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 users should install PythonExt from zotero.org (Firefox extension, 11MB). This custom build of PythonExt fixes several issues with the official releases, including the alpha release for Firefox 3.6. For instructions on how to update PythonExt, see the troubleshooting page.
    *
Firefox 3.0 users should install PythonExt from the official site.
    2.
Install the Word for Mac Plugin (Firefox extension, 126KB).

Word 2008 users: The Word 2008 plugin uses the Word script menu rather than a toolbar.
    OpenOffice & NeoOffice
  • Hi Kirsty,

Did you get a solution to your problem? I'm having the same one. It might be something to do with my having copied my library from another computer - I'm not sure. Would be good to hear if you'd solved it.

  • If you're actually getting the same error ("Can't get alias..."), open your Firefox profile directory in Finder and navigate to extensions/zoteroMacWordIntegration@zotero.org/install, close that window, and restart Firefox.

This is an OS X bug, and we've rewritten the plugin installer to work around it (but we haven't yet released the new version).
  • Thanks for such a swift response Dan and sorry for the double posting. I did as you said, navigated to the install folder and closed finder (I assume this was meant by 'close that window') and restarted Firefox, but still get the same error message on trying to reinstall. I'm assuming that I haven't understood your instructions. Sorry to be a pain.

  • You can also try simply double-clicking the install.scpt script and clicking Run in AppleScript Editor.
  • Thanks again. Did that and got a similar error message ... Zotero ... could not be installed ... Finder got an error can't get file Zotero.dot of parent of alias "MacHD: Applications.Applescript.Script Editor.app". Still no luck. Adam
  • Have you tried restarting?
  • Thanks Simon. I have just done so, but without a change in the situation.

  • Are you using Office 2004 or Office 2008? If you're using Office 2008, things should work regardless of this installation issue, and I can give you instructions on how to suppress the error. If you're using Office 2004, the situation is a little more complicated.
  • Simon, I'm afraid that I'm using 2004 (waiting for the 2011 version before upgrading). Thanks for bearing with me.

  • Hi all, any further indications on what might work? Adam
  • Hi again. Any further recommendations for how I might be able to solve this. I have an assignment hand in today and it would be really useful to have the MacWord integration working.

Really appreciate any suggestions you can give, though this does seem to be a tough one.

  • Thanks Simon. That worked. That's really great. Adam
