354425805 synch error to the new storage

Happened under a different error number on another PC, this one on a MacBook. Seems consistent: can't seem to use the new 5gb storage I just purchased.
  • What was the error?
  • I wish I knew. The error messages are very cryptic.
I will say this: I just got a set of errors again; this time, they are completely unrelated to Zotero; I cannot say that for previous errors. I will also say this: on my MacBook and an ancient XP Pro box, I keep getting errors. On a brand new Win7 laptop with the latest Firefox, I just did what appears to be a complete synch into Zotero, which implies that something is working. Are you not able to read the error message with that number that was submitted?
  • No, there were no errors in that report.
I will also say this: on my MacBook and an ancient XP Pro box, I keep getting errors.
I don't understand. If you're getting an error, tell us what it is.
  • The next time I get an error, I will copy and paste it off the dialog that opens when you go to send an error report. AFIK, an error report with the number in my subject line was sent in. If it goes into the ether, then what's the point of sending error messages? If I sound huffy, I am getting nervous here. You are talking to me as if you are an expert on such matters, and I am relying on experts to read the error reports sent in. If I am to copy and paste them into an email, then say so in the error message; it only says to "remember the number" and use it in a forum post. The straight forward interpretation of that instruction is this: tell us you had a particular error number and we'll read the error message and tell you what's going on. Instead, you keep asking me what's going on; the error message didn't tell me to remember what it said.

Now, if you are suggesting that some "error message" was indicated elsewhere, there was nothing. Only the red "!" when the synch arrow stops turning. Click on it and you get a message that says "if this keeps happening, submit an error message". That's why I'm here. Beyond that I know from nothing. That's because the user interface in Zotero gives me nothing to know -- unless, of course, there's some log file I don't know about. If so, I'd be happy to refer to it and answer questions I cannot otherwise answer.
  • If there's an actual error, it should be included in the error report, but yours was empty. We've never actually reproduced that ourselves and aren't sure what causes it—a conflict with another extension, perhaps—but it seems to happen for some users occasionally, and that's why I'm asking you what the actual message was that you got when you clicked the red icon. There's no need to worry about it—just answer the question.
  • There were some cryptic error messages, I think, slightly italicized;
enough so that one had to scroll through them. They did not have any
particular semantic meaning to me. This is the first time I learn that
what I saw is not what you got. Next time it happens, I'll short
circuit a system that appears not to work and copy the messages into a
forum post. Let's how the issue self resolves.
    Thanks for your help.
  • The system works fine for most users many times a day—there's no need to post messages from those logs, and we don't ask people to do so. All I asked for was the message in the first dialog.
  • Taking your request literally, the message in the first dialog went something like "An error has occurred. If this repeats, send an error message."
FWIW, I just watched synch on the pc that had the errors run--twice--to completion without an error flag.

Also, just so everyone reading this thread understands, I think that Zotero is one of the most important research tools to come along in a long time. I recommend it to everyone.

OK, no need to worry, then. Various things (some outside of our control) can cause intermittent errors. As long as the sync goes through, it's fine.
