Sharing PDFs with WebDav

We have a WebDav server running on IIS 5.1 which we are using to synchronize groups and PDF documents within our lab. Sharing works well except that shared PDFs are not accessible. I know the PDFs are on the server, but they are just not getting synchronized with client machines. The PDFs also show up under the appropriate citation, however when a client clicks on them he/she gets the following error:
"The Attached File Could Not Be Found".
Has anyone gotten this feature to work?
  • File sharing in groups doesn't work with pdfs. Devs say it's a limitation of the protocol.
It works with Zotero storage, though.
  • Interesting...it seems to me that this severely limits the usefulness of the WebDav feature in Zotero. If we can't share a citation's PDFs, what is the point of WebDav? The 100 MB storage offered by zotero can certainly handle most groups references.

Can you point me to Dev's comments on this issue?
  • the point of WebDav is that one single person can have access to his/her files on several computers. I'm sure that's useful for some people, although, of course, less than group sharing.

I don't know if there's an extensive statement on sharing in groups anywhere - you'd have to search yourself, I'd guess there'd be some discussion back when Zotero storage didn't exist - but Trevor briefly mentions that the reasons are technical in the comments (#9) to this blogpost:

Obviously Zotero storage can be extended, albeit at a cost.
