Zotero Word plugin doesn't recognized linked text
I'm having trouble building a bibliography in a linked document due to Word's handling of field codes, and I wonder if there's a good solution for me.
If I attempt to build a full document from chapters in separate files by linking using field codes in Word, the Zotero references are not specified as fields, so the Zotero plugin doesn't recognize the fields when I try to build the bibliography for the entire document.
I'm using Word 2007 on a PC running Win XP, with the zotero plugin.
What I'm trying to do:
I'm trying to write a document consisting of separate chapters. Each chapter is its own file, and includes Zotero references. I can build a bibliography in each chapter (so I know the plugin is working at that point), but I want to have a single bibliography for the entire document. When I attempt to build the bibliography for the whole document post-linking, I get an error message that "You must insert a citation before performing this operation."
How I'm doing it:
My approach is to make the full document by linking to the chapter files (by going Insert -> Object -> Text from file, choosing the chapter, then selecting "Insert as link").
If I press alt-F9 to reveal the fields, I see that the included link is "{ INCLUDETEXT "foo" }. Linking this way does not seem to preserve fields in linked text, so Zotero can't build the full bibliography.
Are there any suggested work-arounds?
Thanks!

anders_royceedited April 19, 2010I believe the citations will only stay linked to Zotero if you combine your documents by pasting them together. Something sort of like this is covered in the last paragraph here: http://www.zotero.org/support/use_cases#theses_and_dissertations

bheavnerThanks for the pointer to the right spot of the docs. That's too bad - I had hoped someone found a good workaround.
