Reset of "Show File" default functionality on linux

I use Zotero on linux (CentOS), and I somehow managed to set the "Show File" button (for an attached pdf document), to launch acrobat reader, by setting it to the acrobat executable (/usr/bin/acroread). This is not useful since it does not load the pdf file, simply launches an empty acrobat reader session.

Question 1: how can I reset the functionality of "Show File" to its default, of showing the location of the file (or, I'd actually like to set it to bring up a nautilus window with the file location). I dont see a preference setting for this anywhere, or anything in about:config in Firefox. Maybe I'm just missing it....

Question 2: Can I set the "View File" button to launch an external acrobat reader session, instead of viewing the file in the Acrobat Reader plugin, inside Firefox?

thanks much for any help or suggestions.
  • I have no idea how you can change the "Show File" behavior. You can change the "View" behavior in about:config by changing this setting "launchNonNativeFiles". hidden_prefs [Zotero Documentation]
  • I figured it out: these are both firefox application settings. I set the "Show File" to acroread, when firefox had asked what to do. (This was some time ago so I'd forgotten what I'd actually done). so in Firefox --> Edit --> Preferences --> Applications, I've set the action for 'file' type to 'nautilus'.

And for opening a pdf not in the acrobat firefox plugin, but in a separate acrobat session, I just changed the action for PDF file in Firefox to the acroread executable, instead of the previously selection "Use Adobe Reader in Firefox" option.
