URGENT - Zotero not showing up after Firefox upgrade

Hello,

When I open Firefox, Zotero no longer appears in the bottom right-hand corner. This may or may not be related to the fact that I recently updated Firefox (but I have not updated Zotero yet).

Thanks so much for any help anyone can give!
  • Just to confirm, have you tried these steps?
  • FYI, Zotero 1 does not work with the latest Firefox, so you will need to update to Zotero 2, or roll back your version of Firefox if that is what you are experiencing.
  • Thank you both. This is what I was afraid of.

I wish that Mozilla had attached a warning to the Firefox update that all add-ons would have to be updated before they could even be accessed - or if they did attach such a warning, I didn't see it.

The warnings to wait to upgrade Zotero until you're not pushing against a deadline aren't very helpful when your entire library has already been made unaccessible. Downgrading Mozilla and upgrading Zotero looked to be equally time-consuming, so I chose to upgrade. Now I can't access any of my notes until it's done syncing (1.5+ hours for a library of only 60 items? Seems a little untoward.)

Looks like it'll be another late night.

    Thanks for listening :)
  • Actually, everything seems to be working now, exactly 3 seconds after my earlier post! Thanks again for the help.

The new features really are lovely. Wouldn't have minded enjoying them next week instead!

    From the upgrade section:
Don't want to upgrade now? If you've installed 2.0 but haven't yet upgraded your database, you can reinstall Zotero 1.0 from the home page.

Syncing? What does syncing have to do with accessing your library?
  • Well, maybe I wasn't clear before. I did read the upgrade section you're quoting above. Reinstalling Zotero 1.0 (and the previous version of Mozilla as well) didn't look much simpler than upgrading. Either way, I would have had to figure out how to backup the whole thing, download stuff and install it. So instead of reworking by downgrading and upgrading again, I just decided to move forward.

You didn't know? Notes are not accessible while the library is syncing. Unless my computer is unique.

Dan knows. If you have auto-sync enabled, you can turn it off. Gear menu -> Preferences -> Sync, then untick the box next to the option. I'm not sure if that closes a running sync, but restarting Firefox would do that.

(Edit: Er ... not necessary. My inexperience showing again.)

For the Zotero part, at least, it just entails clicking on the link on the front page.

Yes they are. Just expand the parent item in the middle pane and click on the note. We wouldn't put out a release where notes were inaccessible.

But again, the UI glitch with the Notes tab will be fixed in the next release.
  • Mine is all upgraded now, but for the benefit of others who might look at this thread, let's see if I can understand exactly what you're saying:

Situation: Firefox is upgraded, Zotero is not, library inaccessible and not yet backed up. What would have been the absolute quickest way to get myself up and running again just to meet my deadline?
  • Google "Firefox 3.5 download" and click top link. Click "Firefox 3.5.8". Download and install.

Open zotero.org in Firefox 3.5. Click "Download previous Zotero version 1.0.10". Restart Firefox.

    Done.
  • Many thanks, all!
