Notes capabilities degraded

One of the features I use in Notes is the ability to cut and paste illustrations.
1. I used this feature to build a reference library of technical graphs and illustrations. Key words in the first sentence of the title help me determine the type of illustration I pasted into the notes. The latest version .02 I just installed turned all my illustrations into blank frames with alight gray broken figure icon in the upper left hand corner. Is there any way to recover these illustrations?
2. The cut and paste metafile illustrations in Notes is not reproduced when printing a report on a reference. This would be a useful feature to include.
  • 1. there is a thread on this somewhere - but the short answer is that if you just cut&paste images, the note stores a link to a temp file - which disappears at some point (look at the html) - you can replace that by a regular link to the image and in said thread there are some smart thoughts on how to do that. This is not actually a regression, though, you just happened to notice now.

    2. I think that's right - you'd have to adjust the report.css for that I believe.
  • adamsmith is referring to the solution in the Zotero Tips and Tricks list. That solution, however, only works for image files that can be saved as Zotero attachments. It is not currently possible to use copy-and-paste for images in a way that will be stable and allow syncing. If you can save the image, then add that image file to your Zotero library, perhaps as an attachment, then you will be able to use the trick described at the link above.

Developers: Would it be possible to hook into the image paste action and automatically make an attachment out of the image that the notes editor wants to save in a temporary directory? That way images in notes would be stable, without having to resort to tricks. The only drawback here is that the image would be orphaned when people paste into stand-alone notes, since there's no parent to give them.

OK then, thanks for helping find where to to look (tips and tricks). Works just as stated: I created an image folder in my Zotero library. Then used "Snag it" to copy a window and save as an image file in the folder. Linked the file to a reference, then created a note linked to the reference. Dragged the image into the note...Presto. A couple of extra steps but worth it!
