Communicating with Word

Hi -

I have
Mac OS X V 10.6.2
Firefox 3.5.3
Word 2008
PythonExt 2.6.2.20100203 (Python 2.6.2 XPCOM bindings)
Zotero 2.0
Zotero MacWord Integration 3.0a8

When I try to insert a citation in Word using Zotero, I get this message:

"Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please be sure that Firefox is open and try again."

Firefox, needless to say, is open.

Any idea what I should do?

Thanks.

Is your home folder stored on a network?

If so, you can either download the latest dev builds[no longer necessary] of Zotero and Zotero MacWord Integration (but heed the warnings on that page), or you can wait until the next release of Zotero, which should be sometime in the next week.
  • Hi to all,
same thing here for "Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please be sure that Firefox is open and try again."

    I am on
    Mac OS X V 10.5.2
    Firefox 3.6
    Word 2008
PythonExt 2.6.2.20100203 (Python 2.6.2 XPCOM bindings)
    Zotero 2.0.2
    Zotero MacWord Integration 3.0a9

I tried reinstall and start over everything, checked that the file ZoteroIntegrationPipe does not exist on my machine, deleted the Zotero files in the Word folder...

I am not on a network, and I add that until this morning everything went smoothly until yesterday I installed the new version of Firefox (3.6) and new update of Zotero and Zotero Mac plugin...

anything else I could try?? Thanks a lot...

P.S. searching on the forums I found this discussion forums.zotero.org/discussion/11681, that however could not be opened...
  • Hi, after further checking around, I still cannot make Word and Zotero to communicate...
I am not on a network login, thus I don't think it is the same problem discussed on the other thread on Mac communications between Word and Zotero...
One strange thing (not sure if it means anything) is that the Applescript
do shell script "echo 'MacWord2008 addCitation' > ~/.zoteroIntegrationPipe"
gives me an error that says "the document vm:Users:luca:.zoteroIntegrationPipe cannot be found".

However the Zotero debug has a line that says:
(3)(+0000003): Initializing Zotero integration pipe at /Users/Shared/.zoteroIntegrationPipe_luca

what is with the _luca at the end of the file? I can say that "luca" should be the administration name on my Mac: I always log in as administrator, but I do not understand why the Zotero integration pipe has this in filename...

any help will be greatly appreciated, as I have a paper in writing that is standying by....

OK, I managed to solve the problem myself, by removing the word script folder in the users data folder, uninstalling the plugin Zotero-Mac integration and re-installing everything for the n-th time....

Still do not understand the problem, but all is well that ends well...
