Journal name abbreviation

With Zotero, do you have to supply the abbreviation for each journal for yourself into the library if you plan to use abbreviations in your citation?

Is the mechanism the same with Endnote? I'm getting an impression from a brief web search that, with Endnote, there is already a pre-made "Journal Terms List" that contains abbreviations for most academic journals.

Could someone enlighten me please so that I can choose between the two? (Of course, the above is one of many criteria.)
