Word plugin opens new Firefox windows

Hi,

I just upgraded my Firefox/Zotero combo to the new versions. Everything seems to run smoothly except when I click on any of the buttons on the Zotero toolbar to add or edit a citation in Word, not only the corresponding Zotero dialog comes up, but also a new Firefox window opens up. This also happens with the refresh button for example, where there is not even a Zotero dialog opening. When hitting the edit citation button the new Firefox window even covers the Zotero dialog.
Any suggestions what causes this?
I am using Firefox 3.6, Zotero 2.0, Zotero WinWord integration 3.0a3, Word 2003 on WinXP. I am just running one Firefox profile and start it up with a regular shortcut (Target: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"; Start in: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox").
Thanks,
dapperdan
  • Do you have MinimizeToTray For FF 3.5? If so, disable it.

Ha, unbelievable. It worked. Thanks, Simon!
Actually I still had the original (?) version of MinimizeToTray still running. https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/2110
(Don't know why it still ran, I don't remember messing with the version numbers)
    What is causing this conflict?
Does any of the MinimizeToTray addons work with Zotero?
Edit: MinimizeToTray Plus as well as MinimizeToTray revived both seem to not cause this conflict.
  • It's incompatible because MinimizeToTray breaks Firefox's command line functionality, which Zotero relies upon. In particular, the "-silent" switch doesn't work. The original MinimizeToTray and MinimizeToTray for FF 3.5 are known to have this issue, and we haven't tested other extensions, but if you find a replacement that works, please let us know.
  • I quickly checked MinimizeToTray revived 0.5.4 (MinTrayR) as well as MinimizeToTray Plus 1.0.8 yesterday and encountered no problems with both of them. I continue to use MinimizeToTray Plus for the time being, since it minimizes to the tray with a right-click on the minimize button, which MinTrayR does not (yet). If I encounter any Zotero-related problems, I'll post them to this thread.
Thanks again for the quick support, Simon!
