from word to zotero

Hi,

In one instance, I manually changed the reference list inserted by Endnote in my word document. Endnote does not preserve the formatting when it updates the bibliography. Is there any way to get these references from word into Zotero?

Thanks,
  • There is not currently a way to automatically get formatted references from Word into Zotero.

At present, you can export your library from EndNote & import it into Zotero.

If you no longer have EndNote or your EndNote library, you may use something like cb2Bib to assist you in creating an import file for Zotero from the formatted entries.

Once you have them in Zotero, you will have to manually add them back into your Word document--there is not yet an automated way to replace citations in a word processor document with your new Zotero citations.

There are various feature requests to improve this process, though.
  • Any update on this? I am running Zotero 2.0 and Word 2007 in Win XP Pro. Trying to export bibliography created in Word document FROM that document INTO Zotero. Any way to do that without having to manually re-enter all the references into Zotero first?
  • nothing new. Not in sight, either.
  • While adamsmith is correct, you should try out noksagt's advice-- cb2Bib can do a lot. It runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. Its output can be imported by Zotero.
  • Thanks adamsmith and ajlyon -- I'll try the cb2Bib thing. So many citations, so little time, so much software code, so little brain left...
  • I just came across a new tool to parse formatted bibliographies, Ref2RIS: http://journal.code4lib.org/articles/6286
  • While wandering on the web last month I found that: http://c4tc.wordpress.com/2010/08/30/structured-and-unstructured-parsing-bibliographies/ Probably outdated?
