Scholar Preferences Library Links

Greetings, I have identified library links through Scholar's preferences. I'm not sure what the antecedent is, but occasionally these links are wiped and I have to go back into Prefs and reset them. Same happens with the chosen export format in Prefs. Ideas to prevent the settings from being canceled (ie save my settings)?

    By "library links" do you mean the OpenURL resolvers? I'm also not sure what you mean by "Scholar's" preferences.

    It occurred to me later that by Scholar you must have meant "Google Scholar." It may be that you need to take up your questions on its own support forum (perhaps there is something in Google groups?). What you describe seems like a cookie problem. Your GS cookie is being erased or replaced. I don't think I've had this problem, so I can't guess as to why it happens, but "clearing private data" from your browser, or running other programs to either make space or clean up might be the cause.

    Again, appreciate your input! You're right that I didn't make the question clear... the reason I report the problem here is that it began upon installation/use of zotero. If others aren't having the same problem, then I wonder about exploring your hypothesis that another add-on might be interacting with zotero. I'm familiar with some of the settings in Firefox and add-ons that can prompt clearing of private data, and these aren't set to clear data. Also, other private data is still in place. ie I'm only observing the problem with zotero and google scholar.

    You're welcome. Hope you figure it out. Unless I'm mistaken, Zotero itself doesn't come anywhere near cookies, so I doubt it could even be related to the problem. My best guess (short of privacy-clearing programs) would be some sort of bug in the way that GS keeps track of its prefs. Good luck.

    One other thought. If the computer in question is a laptop, GS does try to determine available libraries based on the user's IP address. It's possible this could mess up the library info in your preferences. You could also test against Google's other services (set prefs up for Google web or image search) and see if they are persistent.

    Cartesian's translator hasn't been committed yet, but the fix is on the way.

    Thanks, bingo. Me and OhioLINK and George Mason University have been friendly during this weekend of dissertation research... if I had just had the password to their subscriptions! :-) One other observation that may be helpful -- I noticed the references to cartesian in the ticket -- during a few of my GScholar searches today, a login/password prompt appeared with cartesian indicated as the server (in my lay understanding). I'll look forward to the fix down the road. Cheers.
