Editing Word Doc on Two Computers

Here's the situation. I edit a word document on two computers. I have installed Zotero in the Firefox browser on both computers; the second computer's Zotero database was populated through the Zotero Sync feature. When I tried to add a citation to the document on the second computer, I got the message stating that the one of my existing citation no longer existed in the Zotero database. Why is this? Is there a way around this? Or can I only edit my document on the first computer with the original Zotero database?
  • 1) Are you sure the item in question has been synced to the other side?

    2) Did you upgrade from 1.0? If so, see the upgrade warning.
  • Hi, Thank you for the quick response.

The answer to question #1 is yes. The item that Zotero said was not in the current database was simply the first citation in the document, which has been in the Zotero database on the original computer for a very long time. As for #2, I am not upgrading. The original computer is also running Zotero 2.0. I already ran afoul of the upgrade problem several months ago.
  • Right-click on one of the missing citations and choose Toggle Field Codes, and then copy the underlying field code and paste it here.
  • In the process of trying to do what you said, I tried to recreate the error from before. This time after I hit the "Insert Citation" button in Word, the program highlighted a citation in the 62nd footnote and gave the same error: that the citation was no longer in the database. When I looked at the database that was true. I re-added the text and followed when prompted by Zotero re-linked the citation with it. Then I was able to pick a new citation for entry at the point at which I had originally clicked the "Insert Citation" button. So now everything seems to be ok; still I don't know how the citation in the 62nd foot one was destroyed. Is it possible it was stripped away in the Sync-ing process?
