openoffice integration error labelGetUbuntu is null"

Hi Dan, tried to refresh a document and got a huge error message and then was unable to insert a citation, refresh it or anything.
Problem solved (for now) by copying the document into a blank doc
Ubuntu 9.10 Zotero 2.0b7
OOoint 3.0b5

report id 1377989986

Let me know if you need anything else,
Regards,
Jon.

OK, so I take back the problem solved bit. This document seems totally borked. I'm going to try installing the dev versions to see if that helps.
  • We'd need a screenshot of the error. You can send it to support@zot....org or post it somewhere. Thanks.
  • HI Dan, sent a screenshot of the error message to support.
  • Installed the dev versions of Zotero and the integration plug-in. Still getting the error. Sent another screenshot through as it's not exactly the same.
  • We're looking into this. In the meantime, the Debugging Broken Documents steps might help.
  • Had you by any chance used Track Changes in this document? Simon was able to reproduce the same error with Track Changes enabled.
  • It's possible, well likely actually. It wasn't my document - I was just fixing the bibliography for my partner. She may well have been using track changes. Will let you know as soon as I can ask her.
  • UPDATE: no, she says she wasn't using track changes and I wasn't either.
Tried deleting the bibliography, then deleting one half, then the other half but got the same error message for both halves. I've kept a copy of the document if you're interested but I think it's going to be quicker for me to just save it as rtf to blizt it and redo the references.

If I manage to reproduce this from a 'clean' document, I'll let you know.
Oh and just an FYI, I'm assuming you know this from the error report I sent through but in case not: after I clicked OK on the error message I sent you a picture of, I then got the additional error message

[JavaScript Error: "fields is null" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/integration.js" line: 372}]
  • OK, here is how you reproduce the error without track changes in a new openoffice document. Its easiest if you have field shadings highlighted.

    select MLA refmarks style
insert a reference, type some stuff
insert a citation with the author supressed and no page number. Ignore the warning [yes I know, but bare with me].
more text, another reference don't supress the author.
    insert bib
switch styles to Chicago author date bookmarks
    switch back to refmarks
You'll see that your 2nd reference has now duplicated itself.
    Hit refresh.
    oops.
However, that's not quite the error I was getting originally. To get that, switch back to MLA style. Go back to the second reference, hit back space. Now try refreshing and that gets you the error I was having, including the 'field is null' problem.
    So, no track changes involved.
    Hope that helps.
  • I've experienced the same a number of times. This time I had no Zotero refs. incerted, then incerted one and removed it by just deleting the text. I did have trackchanges on. When I wanted to incert a new one I got the error message. Using OOo and the latest version of Zotero as of today (feb 11 2010).
  • By accepting my manual deletion of the reference in list of tracked changes, the problem was solved.
