Upgrade StorageWord could not communicate with Zotero — Add/Edit Citation not working
Hello,
I am having a problem with the Zotero Word plugin.
When I click “Add/Edit Citation” in Microsoft Word, I get the following error:
“Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure Zotero is running and try again.”
I am using:
- Windows 11
- Zotero 10.0.3 (64-bit)
- Microsoft Word
Zotero is running before I open Word.
I have already:
- Restarted the computer
- Started Zotero before Word
- Removed Zotero.dotm from the Word Startup folder
- Reinstalled the Microsoft Word Add-in from Zotero
- Confirmed that Zotero.dotm is enabled in Word Add-ins
The problem still occurs in a blank Word document.

dstillman Zotero TeamThat shows the plugin's Document Preferences window successfully opening, not a "Word could not communicate with Zotero" error. Most likely the window is just appearing behind your other windows. It's a window of the Zotero app.
