Zotero 9.0-beta.16 Cannot Load Translators and Styles; Browser Connector Not Working

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using Zotero 9.0-beta.16+6140088b0 (64-bit), and I’ve run into some issues that I can’t resolve on my own.

Zotero fails to load translators and citation styles. Every time I start Zotero, I get an error message indicating that it cannot load the necessary translators and styles. This prevents me from properly importing references or using citation styles.
The Zotero browser connector is also not working. I have tried using the latest version of the browser connector, but it seems disconnected from Zotero. Clicking the connector icon in the browser does not save references, and Zotero does not appear as a destination.

I have tried:

Restarting Zotero and the browser.
Reinstalling Zotero and the connector.
Checking firewall/antivirus settings.

But none of these steps solved the issue.

Has anyone experienced similar problems with Zotero 9 beta? Any advice or workaround would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup, using the Help → Debug Output Logging → "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

This is my Debug ID : D1917802667

[JavaScript Error: "UnknownError: Could not get children of `F:\zotero的数据库\translators': could not iterate children (NS_ERROR_GENERATE_FAILURE(44, 87))"]

    [additional errors removed — D.S.]
  • That would be something about whatever F: is. Best we can suggest is to move your data directory back to the local disk.
  • I tried moving the data directory back to the local disk, but I'm still getting "Cannot Load Translators and Styles". I reinstalled Zotero and am currently using version 8.0.4 (64-bit), but it's still not working.

(Please only post ids here, not the full output. We'll excerpt relevant parts as necessary.)

There's something wrong with your translators folder. You can try just deleting it. This could also be caused by security software on your computer.

I agree with your view; I also think there is a problem with the translators folder. I just deleted my translators folder and restarted Zotero, but the original problem still occurs. I don’t know how to fix it.

You're no longer getting the same error.

Can you delete the folder again and provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup, using the Help → Debug Output Logging → "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

That's a Report ID, not what I asked for.

But that does show the same error, so this is something on your system. You'll need to figure out what's blocking Zotero from reading from that folder.
  • Sorry, I made a mistake earlier. This time the Debug ID is D900283125
  • his is my Debug ID: D1937311103

I'm afraid we don't have any other answer here. Something on your system is preventing Zotero from accessing that folder properly, even after you delete it. Security software seems the most likely.
  • All right, since it's a problem with my computer system, I will try to resolve the system issue. Thank you very much for your patient and professional help!
