Moving to a new library on Pop_OS

I have a very large, cluttered, and slow to load old Zotero library on my Pop_OS machine. It might even be pointing to a shared network drive, I'm not sure.

For a specific project, I want to start fresh with a new library, under a new web account (this one), while saving off the old library somewhere. I can't actually figure out though, how to point to a new library. Even when I move ~/.zotero to a new location and create a new empty directory, the old library seems to autopopulate.

On Linux, ~/.zotero is usually the profile/config area, not the actual library database. Zotero normally stores the live library in the active data directory, which by default is ~/Zotero, and it reads the zotero.sqlite file from there. So moving ~/.zotero alone doesnt give you a blank library

In Zotero, go to Edit → Settings → Advanced → Files and Folders.
Look at “Data Directory Location” and click “Show Data Directory.” That folder is the real library you need to archive
( I wasn’t using Zotero on Ubuntu for a long time, and I cannot check those settings now.) The placement of the Zotero folder might have something to do if this is Flatpak or DEB, as Flatpaks might be sandboxed, but I don’t think this will have any influence. Both Flatpak and DEB were using the same folder when I was running them, I think.
  • Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to do.
