After retrieval of metadata Z creates a parent item as empty folder leaving the pdf file outside

Zotero 8.0.4 (original wrapper)
Zorin OS.

Here's what happens, since Zotero 8, when using "retrieve metadata" for a pdf already present in the library, a parent item (folder) is created. However, the folder is empty and the original pdf (or epub) remains in its prior place. It used to be that the pdf/epub was added to the parent item (folder).
This makes the work double, as I need to navigate up to the parent item to manually add the corresponding file. Adding at times 20-30 items at a time, you an imagine the amount of searching and scrolling involved, even on a large screen.

Thankful for any suggestions how to fix this.

Restart in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins. If that fixes it, you'll need to identify the plugin that's causing it and then report the problem to the plugin's developer.

It happens also for sometimes me when adding books from PDF; the item is created, but the PDF with the book isn't included. Articles are fine.

I will follow up if I find out if this is any of the plugins’ culprits.

Thank you for your quick reply. I checked and found no plug-ins installed. To make sure, I restarted in Troubleshooting Mode - the problem persists.

Re: @danielborek. Thank you too for your reply. My first impression is that it could be a problem specifically with books. Also, the phenomenon seems to be recent, introduced perhaps with Zotero 8.+

Can you provide a Debug ID for reproducing this?

    Report sent to Zotero,
    debug ID:
    D845363491

(apparently quite a few lines were sent, I hope they contain the relevant action, if not I'll resend. Reason: when I first reproduced the problem and chose "view output", Zotero froze and I had to force quit it).

P.S. This has the problem in it:
    D1283208318

Sorry for the double sending. Thank you
