2nd Ed. SBL Handbook Note style no longer has the place in the citation

As in the title, it's now incorrect - the place has completely disappeared from both the notes and bibliography in all of the Item Types that I'm currently using (book, thesis, journal article, blogpost, conference paper) so I'd assume that would be the same with the rest too

That's correct SBL. Chicago removed the place in the 18th edition and SBL had a blogpost in December that they are following suit.

Is it possible to post a "legacy" edition of the SBL 2.0 style? I have several publications in process for volumes whose editors do not intend to update their style requirements mid-stream.

You can of course get an older version of a style. For the SBL note style, you'd go here and then click on "History" and you can see the commits the style received all the way back to its creation.

Note that if you indeed want to use an older version, that you need to give the style it's unique ID/ self link... as explained here: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step

Otherwise your style will be overwritten by the latest version served by the repository>Zotero.
