Zotero 8: No semicolon between multiple sources when additional information is added

Zotero 8.0.4 (Windows, 64 bit) omits semicolons when multiple sources are cited and information on the first source in the brackets is added manually (such as 'emphasis added'). It reads "(Author A 2024, 15; Author B 2020, 30)" and it should also read "(Author A 2024, 15 - emphasis added; Author B 2020, 30)", but reads "(Author 2024, 15 - emphasis added Author B 2020, 30)" (note the missing semicolon). What can I do about this?
  • How exactly are you adding this information and which citation style? I'm not seeing that behavior. Using the page and suffix field as recommended, I get
(Koenecke et al. 2024, 15- emphasis added; Trice 1987)
  • I use Chicago, 18th edition (author-date). I add citations via 'Add/Edit citation' in Word and I manually add information in the dialogue that also allows for adding page numbers.
I just tried to reproduce the problem and I think I have found the reason for the error: 'emphasis added' can be abbreviated as 'Herv. i. O.' in German (the language in which I write). If I use 'emphasis added', I cannot reproduce the error, but if I use the conventional German 'Herv. i. O.', I can. I suspect that the dot, which is part of the citation, somehow prevents Zotero from adding a semicolon or comma between different sources.
Is there any way to circumvent this?
  • I don't think you can prevent this, no -- the citation tool is designed to omit duplicate punctuation. (Herv. im Orginal would work, of course; it's the period at the end)
  • Thank you! That is unfortunate, 'Herv. im Original' is not necessarily conventional.
