Links to individual annotations

When you choose “Add note from annotations,” a note is created, and if you click on the text of that note, a “Go to Page” option appears. When you click on *that*, it jumps to the actual annotation itself.

Can we get access to the actual link, so we can use it elsewhere? Or is there some way to extract it from the note? This would be useful in various places.
  • Okay, I just realized that such links are created whenever text is copied and pasted in Zotero, which is awesome, but it would still be useful to be able to use such (I assume `zotero://`) links outside of the app.
  • I don't think there's a non-plugin way to get the zotero://open-pdf links directly from the annotation (I think some plugins may do this, and I know the Obsidian plugin uses the format), but out of the box, if you add the annotation to a note and then copy it to a plaintext editor, the link is included (assuming your Export settings are the default, i.e. Markdown + Richtext with Include Zotero Links checked) that will include the link.

You can get Zotero links to a specific annotation (or item, PDF , note, or collection) with this script of the Actions & Tags plugin:

    Note also that:
    Direct link copying is planned

  • I'm not sure in what context you want to have the link to the annotation in the PDF. In my case, I use to drag and drop directly from Zotero to Obsidian (without going through a note), and in Obsidian I have the annotation, my comments, and a direct link to the annotation's location in the PDF in Zotero.

Of course, the Actions & Tags plugin is also an option, which I also use. But the way I comment is the simplest in many cases.
