How do I detach the pdf in Zotero 8 to save storage?

Contrary to instructions I've found online, it never says "detach pdf." When I right click on the pdf from the main list, I have the option to open the pdf and even delete, but I'm not sure if that means delete the whole entry or delete the pdf?

I've tried opening the item and clicking and right clicking around the "attachment" section, but that doesn't give the option to detach either. Only add another pdf.

    detach pdf is not a thing and has never been in Zotero (I'm guessing AI was somewhere involved in generating that answer, whether you used it directly or the online answer you found was written by AI).
    What exactly are you trying to achieve -- I understand you want to save storage, but what's 'detach' supposed to actually do?

    I was told that if I didn't attach my pdfs I would take up less storage space. Then Zotero would just be used for the citations and I would not have to pay extra.

    That's true, but if you just don't want to pay for storage, you can disable file syncing in the Zotero sync preferences and still have all the attached files you want locally -- it'd be very unfortunate to run Zotero without file attachments given how useful they are (searching, annotations, etc.)
