iPad app PDF reader glitch

When viewing a PDF on my iPad, hiding the toolbar leaves a grey rectangle at the top of the screen. Sometimes the rectangle appears when the toolbar is active, but the toolbar is pushed up into the top of the screen, making it difficult to tap the buttons (for example, search or show annotations). This started happening after I updated my iPad to iPad OS 26.

I'm using an iPad 9th gen running iPadOS 26.0.1 and the latest version of the Zotero app.

  • Hey @bruec, can you please clarify if you use the latest released version (1.0.54) or the latest beta one (2.0.0-397)
  • I’m on 1.0.54.
  • Also happens on the beta, including the latest one. If you rotate the screen to landscape mode and back the rectangle disappears. Then it won’t appear when showing and hiding the toolbar a few times, until it randomly appears again after a few show/hide cycles.
  • Issue should be fixed in the latest beta (2.0.0-401), please do test if possible and provide further feedback if needed.

  • Looks like the problem is fixed on 2.0.0-401!
  • I noticed this problem happening again on version 2.0.4.-417. Running iPadOS 26.3 on an iPad A16.
  • I’m also seeing this with verision 2.0.4 build 417 on iPadOS 26.3:

  • Same here. But I also see this in many other apps. Seems like either (1) a bug in iOS or (2) a change in how iOS communicates available window space to apps that has to be taken into account by app developers. Swiping up the dock seems to fix it for a moment, but then it goes back to the broken state after almost any interaction.
  • in iOS 26, you can change from Full Screen Apps to Windowed Apps (allowing to have several Zotero windows).
  • that's irrelevant to this bug

OK. Changing to Windowed Apps first seemed to have moved the Zotero toolbar below, but after using my iPad, the glitch is again visible, either in Full Screen Apps or Windowed Apps. (But is important to be in Windowed App to be able to open several Zotero windows since the OS update.)
Edit: Exiting full screen and re-entering makes the glitch to disappear. But it seems it will reappear at some point.
