Zotero connector breaks OpenAthens log in access to PDF file

I need to use the institutional access to the APS articles when working from home:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u265723/viacw2prjoaph5m59cyn.png

After doing the log in, I can manually download the PDF file. For example:
https://journals.aps.org/prfluids/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevFluids.5.033609

But if I try to use the Zotero connector from the article page, it downloads the "Submitted Version" of the article.
- If I try again to download the file manually just after using the Zotero connector, this time it asks me to login again.
- If I refresh the page just after using the Zotero connector, I get logged out from the OpenAthens log in access, and cannot access the PDF file anymore.
So it seems that the Zotero Connector is breaking my OpenAthens log in access.

It even fails and breaks my OpenAthens log in access when trying to use the connector directly from the PDF file page in the browser.

Do you observe the same behaviour with Chrome?

OpenAthens support is available in the Zotero Connector Beta now. You should remove any proxy entries that you have setup for OpenAthens if any, and see if you get better support. Particularly, Zotero Connector should automatically discover that you are using OpenAthens and add it to the list of proxies, and automatically associate any pages that you access via OpenAthens.

Please let us know if you encounter any issues!
  • I have tested a few websites and it is all working nicely now. Thank you very much!

I do not see any changes in the URL after login to OpenAthens, and I did not see any Proxies getting added to the Zotero Connector.

Would you produce a Debug ID from the connector for a navigation from a non-proxied site to a proxied one? Either by logging out from openathens, and relogging in, or by navigating to one that is available to you, but you haven't accessed via the proxy yet.
  • On the link of the original post:
    The Debug ID is D511786524.

Or on this page with another institution:
    https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1209/0295-5075/126/44003
    The Debug ID is D1645220964.

To log out, I can do a "Clear cookies and site data" in Firefox.
