Zotero Connector metadata on CABI Digital Library

Dear Zotero team,

I am contacting you regarding Zotero Connector behaviour on our platform (CAB Direct content now hosted at https://www.cabidigitallibrary.org/, migrated in 2022).

We have tested the latest Zotero version and Connector and observed:

• On database record pages in the CABI Digital Library, the Connector saves a webpage snapshot with limited metadata (URL, access date, screenshot). E.g., https://www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/full/10.5555/20250519640
• On chapter / full text content pages on the same platform, the Connector captures full metadata correctly. E.g., https://www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/10.1079/ab.2026.0017
• RIS export from the platform imports correctly into Zotero with full metadata.
• The Connector works as expected (full metadata capture) on external sites such as PubMed, Nature, Researchgate, and publisher journal sites.

We are aware there was a CAB Direct translator created in 2017, cf. https://github.com/zotero/translators/blob/master/CABI - CAB Abstracts.js. Since the platform migrated in 2022, we are unsure whether:

1. The existing translator is still intended to support our database record pages, or
2. A new / updated translator would be needed for the current platform structure.

When hovering over the Connector icon on our pages, we typically see both:
– “Save to Zotero (snapshot)”
– “Save to Zotero (Atypon journals)”

This suggests the platform is recognised, but item-level metadata may not be detected for some record types.

Could you please advise whether we should open or update a translator issue for this site?

Kind regards,
Lucia Zoppi

  • I don't have access to CABI, but it looks like it should be recognized via the standard Atypon translator -- what exactly happens when you click on the Zotero connector icon on the first URL? Do you get an error for atypon and it then saves the snapshot or something else?

I'll also note that the first DOI (10.5555/20250519640 ) doesn't appear to be a valid DOI, and that could be another cause of problems).
