Citation key field missing from the info pane

MacOS Sequoia, Zotero 8.03 and Better BibTeX 8.0.11

I am using Texmaker, and in my workflow I have found copying and pasting citation keys to be efficient. After BBT broke this morning, I updated both Zotero from 7 to 8, and BBT to 8.0.11, and discovered that the citation key is missing form the info pane.

I have searched everywhere (I think) but have found no way to make the field reappear. I know that I can make it appear in the list of titles, however not for easy copying and I need the space for other information.

I would appreciate any suggestion to be able to re-introduce the citation key field anywhere in the right hand pane.
  • Citation key is now a native Zotero field, and your items should have a Citation Key in the info pane regardless of BBT. For journal articles, it is right under DOI.

Depending on how you responded to BBT prompts on migrating your existing citation keys, they may or may not populate that field.
  • Just to add a data point: on my machine I didn't get a prompt from BBT and all Citation keys were deleted. Not a big problem for myself, but I'm guessing this wasn't the intended behaviour.
  • Solved, thank you @enzokan. I had obviously not searched *everywhere*. Like @aborel, neither did I get the prompt to updaate the citation keys, but my workflow is restored and that is the main point.
  • I got the prompt to keep/remove pinned/unpinned keys with an earlier, pre-release version of BBT (from github), so that feature may have been removed or no longer work in 8.0.11. I am sure Emiliano is working on this already.
  • The migration is now silent if it doesn't overwrite existing keys (which is going to be the case for the majority). @aborel BBT does not delete citation keys -- they might not be visible, but they are still there. If you don't see them, open an issue on github and I will get you sorted.
  • Thanks for your work, I don't have anything else to report: I have re-created all of my citation keys (or perhaps actually just repaired their visibility in Zotero) shortly after my first post in this thread.
  • If you still want to restore the keys you had, rename better-bibtex.migrated to better-bibtex.sqlite and start Zotero. You will probably get the migration popup given that you have filled the citation keys.
  • I'm fine with the new keys, but it's certainly good to know for some other users. Thank you!
