How to deal with citations for which I cannot access the full paper.

Sometimes I need to cite a paper that I cannot access without paying a fee. In this case, I would like to avoid the fee and just download the abstract, list of authors and full citation in a form that will automatically be saved in Zotero and that I can cite like any other paper in Zotero. Is there a way to do this?
  • I'm not sure I fully understand. Can't you simply use the connector to import the info into Zotero? It just won't download and attach the PDF. Or do you have an URL example where this scheme doesn't work?
  • I click a URL that takes me to a paper on the internet. It allows me to see the title, authors abstract and references, but there is a pay wall for accessing the whole paper (I am not at a university with subscriptions to many journals). I need to cite that paper right away. I can download the abstract, title, etc in 2 or 3 formats. one called PUB-Med for instance. I would like to be able to download in a format that, when I upload that file to Zotero, it will automatically integrate it in the same way it does a full paper, so I can immediately cite that article in a manuscript. IT is that Automatic upload process that is not happening when I upload the abstract to Zotero. IS there a trick to make this happen?
  • All you do is go to the article, e.g. on PubMed, click the Zotero connector button and it will be imported to your Zotero library.
    Then you can cite it.

What do you mean with "automatic upload process"? What file do you have and what are you doing with it?
