[bug] new attachment does not become child item despite fetching its parent item metadata

Expected behaviour:
1. When i drag a pdf into zotero (I know, this is not the recommended behaviour)
2. This triggers zotero to fetch metadata
3. And when metadata successfully fetched -> make a parent item
4. Zotero puts the newly added file as child of this parent item.

Problem: 4 no longer takes place, while 1-3 work as expected!

What now happens is the new attachment is renamed according to the newly fetched metadata *but remains separate to the parent item*, in spite of the new parent item.

8.0.2. Mac.

Restart in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins. If that fixes it, you'll need to identify the plugin that's causing it and then report the problem to the plugin's developer.

thanks @dstillman - can confirm that issue is not zotero's! now narrowing down on which plugin!

Edit: Seems to be Linter. Reporting to the dev!
  • @kzssc Hello, I am the Linter developer.

I'm sorry I cannot reproduce this issue. On my PC (Windows 11 24H2, Zotero 8.0.2-beta3, Linter 2.3.0), when I drag a PDF into Zotero, it normally fetches the metadata and moves the attachment under the main item correctly.

The Linter actually does not have any code to process attachment. If you still believe it is a Linter issue, please ensure all other plugins are disabled, only enable Linter, then restart Zotero. Afterwards, enable debug output, repeat the process, and provide me with the debug output logs. And we can continue the discussion in my GitHub repository #392.

    Thanks.

(It's much more likely this is due to something like Zotmoov.)
  • I have this problem too. It seems that not all PDFs will encounter this problem.

I reproduced this problem both under 8.0.2 and 8.0.3 mac.
