Support for original-title

I was pleasantly surprised to find the original date, publisher, and place field are now supported. I used custom fields for those attributes, but they were automatically converted to the official fields.

However, I would like to request the original-title field be supported also.

For example, I may cite a Book Section. The section title is "Constitutionaries" in the book "The Theodosian Code and Novels and the Sirmondian Constitutions: A Translation with Commentary, Glossary, and Bibliography", hence the title field lists "Constitutionaries". But the original title of this work is "De constitutionariis", so this is what I have filled in my custom "original-title" field. This book contains a reprint of the original work, but assigns a new title to it.

A more common scenario may just be that the title changed with a later publication. Perhaps this would also be a useful field for Web pages, when title changes are common (e.g., new article titles are changed all the time).

In any case, I think this would be a valuable field and I hope support for it will be added.
  • It's fantastic that we have native original date/publisher/place fields, indeed!

But for translations of non-English titles it is equally important to have "Original Title" ... perhaps it's even more important than to have original publisher/place. The requirements vary by citation style. But irrespective of style, it's an important piece if metadata so should be a standard field in Zotero.
  • I was also very pleased by this new, useful feature. I would add another suggestion, that is to include fields regarding an original publication in the "Journal article" type of entry. This would come especially handy for translated scientific articles.
