Search for string in date fields?

Before the recent introduction of the "Original Date" field, I used to add the "original date" to the regular date field (e.g. 2024 [1874]). Now I would like to clean the date field and move the original dates into its own home.

To that end, I wanted to search for [ in the date field but it looks like it only lets me search for actual dates (or date ranges). Is there any way of searching for strings in a date field?

    No, but you can search for "[" in All Fields & Tags mode in the items list and just scan down the Date column.

    OK, thanks. This kinda works, but I still have to scroll through many hundreds (it would be great if advanced search could show the count of items found) of false positives.

    I also noticed that it is not possible to search for " ends with" or "" is empty" or " is not empty". It would be great if the search could eventually become more flexible.
