BUG REPORT Zotero 8, Linux (Fedora): PDF tab failing to load

I just installed Zotero 8 and I'm afraid I found a bug. If I take notes on a PDF, then switch to a new PDF later, the new tab is unresponsive. I have to restart Zotero.

I tried to find a similar bug in the forum but did not see it. (sorry if this is a duplicate)

SYSTEM:
8.0.1 (64-bit)
Fedora 43
KDE Plasma 6.5.5

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1) Open a PDF in a new tab
2) Create a note, add highlighted parts of the PDF to the note
3) Close the PDF tab
4) Open a new PDF tab (one with no note)
5) Click on the Note option. There will be no ability to add a new note
6) Click back into the library tab
7) Try to click on the PDF tab -- the tab is unresponsive

Please let me know if you need any particular log files.

    Restart in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins. If that fixes it, you'll need to identify the plugin that's causing it and then report the problem to the plugin's developer. If not, can you provide some screenshots of exactly what you're seeing and a Debug ID for reproducing it?
  • Debug ID:
    1575118554

    I will share a series of screenshots shortly.
  • here's a link to a screen capture of the process:

    https://nc.robertwgehl.org/index.php/s/MNE5Zpj5RNdR4FK?dir=/

    I was able to replicate this in Troubleshooting mode, as well. The process is:

    1) open a PDF in a new tab.
    2) Navigate to that tab, take a note on the PDF
    3) Close that tab
    4) Open a new PDF
    5) The tab becomes unresponsive.
  • Update: I was able to replicate this bug on another computer:

    * KDE Neon (so Ubuntu-based)
    * KDE Plasma v. 6.5.3

    I was able to replicate it both in regular and Troubleshooting modes.

    The same pattern appears -- open a PDF in a tab, take some notes, close that PDF, open another PDF in a tab, and then either the notes menu item is unresponsive and the PDF tab becomes unresponsive, or the new PDF tab is unresponsive immediately.

    I will post a Debug ID ASAP.

    That's a Report ID, not a Debug ID, but are you able to reproduce this with the Zotero beta? This may be fixed.
  • Oops, my bad!

    I'll run the latest beta now and see if I have the same issue.
  • Update: the beta is not showing the issue, at least on the Ubuntu-based computer.
  • Just an update to say I'm running 8.0.2 and that problem seems to be resolved. Thank you!
