Word crashing when inserting citation

I have a problem with my Zotero Word Plugin. I sent a sample document via mail.
Every time I try to insert a citation at the end of the first paragraph of part 1.1 in this document (after “bei der Bestimmung der.”) the document crashes and says an error occurred while updating my document. Originally, this happened in a way bigger document, but I tried to narrow it down and delete as much content as possible with the error still occurring. So, this is more or less the minimal document to consistently produce the error. Funnily enough, in my original document this only happens if I try to insert a citation at this specific point/paragraph and a few other places. If I do it at a different place of the document, it works fine. I can also insert the citation at a different place and copy it there without any problem.
I used the Zotero 8 version and IEEE citation style. Browsing through the forum made me wonder, if it is related to issue 336461639, even though in my case, I don't find a relation to the inserted citation beeing the first or second one.

Can you provide a Report ID?
  • unfortunately not, I think. At least the message-box doesn't show any.

Also, you're saying that Word itself is crashing? What exact version of Word? A Word crash is generally a Word bug.

You can always provide a Report ID. Follow the link to instructions.
  • It is Version 2512 Build 19530.20184
Alright, Report ID is probably 1769533807608

I'm not sure what that version number for Word is, since I cannot find it in the official Microsoft releases, but note that Version 2512 was never in the stable release schedule, only available in Beta or Preview release channels of Word. That is to say, you are running a Word Insider build of Word. That is most likely the issue.

You should really avoid running an insider build of Word or for that matter any software for your work, unless you are testing a specific feature or a bug, and then revert back to stable once the feature makes it into the main release.

If you still see this with a non-insider build, we can take a look.

Hmm, actually, scratch that. I've just updated my Word and I got the same version. Seems like the Word version history page is not up to date. Investigating.

@Dr4UX Could you create a new Windows user account and see if you can reproduce the crash with the document that you have sent us? I am unable to reproduce it, although after opening it, I was notified by Word that "word hyphenation feature is not available", which actually meant that German language typechecking was not installed. However, after installing it, I still cannot reproduce the crash.
