Inconsistent annotation search in Zotero 8 (macos)

When I add a tag to annotations in some PDFs, those PDFs can only be found using Zotero’s Advanced Search, while other PDFs with the same tag only appear when I use the Zotero search bar with Everything selected. I can never retrieve all tagged annotations with a single search, so I believe this is a bug.

    Today I noticed that if I add a tag to highlighted text using Zotero pdf viewer, the tagged annotation can be retrieved only using Zotero’s Advanced Search. If I use Zotero's Everything Search for this the annotation doesn't show up.
    If I import in Zotero annotations made with Preview, which contain a tag associated to highlighted text, these annotations can only be retrieved using Everything Search, they don't show up in Zotero's Advanced Search.

    An annotation tag is showing properly for me in an Everything search.

    From your screenshot, it looks like you have the tag you're searching for in an annotation comment, not as a tag, which wouldn't show up in an Advanced Search for the tag.

    Imported annotations wouldn't have tags — that's only a concept within Zotero. Possible you're generally mixing up comments and tags?

    Here is another example, the pdf is "4267_Der_Versailler_Volkerbund", I added a tag to an annotation within Zotero, I can retrieve the tagged annotation only with "advanced search", with everything search it doesn't show up

    It looks like Everything doesn't currently match annotation tags on standalone attachments. We'll fix that.

    Create a parent item and it will work.
