High storage requirements on the hard drive

Hi,
zotero needs currently more than 10 GB of storage on my hard drive. Could I delete somethin in the folder C:\Users\myname\Zotero\storage or could it crash my library? And how would it affect group libraries shared to me?
If it is a bad idea, are there alternatives to reduce the storage demand?

    If you use file syncing and confirm that all your files have been uploaded, you can safely search for PDFs within the 'storage' folder and delete them. You can then set Zotero to download files "as needed" from the sync settings.

    A future version of Zotero will provide an option to automatically delete local copies of uploaded files in order to save local disk space.
