Android App - Importing a pre-existing library?

I have a massive library that is fully tagged and organised with all the attached files, that I manage myself quite happily offline. Will there ever be the possibility to use the android app like the desktop one, where I can just point it at the location of the data directory and just start working?

If not, am I seriously expected to import the entire library one file at a time?

Also, why do I need an account? I don't need an account for the desktop one. Is this planned "feature" for a future version of the desktop application too?

I am confused as to what the point of the android app is for.
  • No. The mobile apps are intended as companion apps to the desktop app, which will always have vastly more functionality, and there's no other way to sync data.
  • My laptop is dying, and I have been trying to find a solution that will allow me to keep working with my library on my tablet full time.

Are you saying that this is pointless to do, and what I should actually be doing is figuring out how to manage my library independently from any and all Zotero applications?
  • Yes, it's pointless to the first question.
I can't tell you what you should do, but if you can't use a desktop _and_ don't want to or can't store your data on the Zotero servers, I don't see how you can use Zotero

To be clear, if the Android functionality is sufficient for your purposes and you don't require all the functionality of the desktop app, you can certainly keep using it that way, but syncing your library there via the Zotero servers is your only option.
