Some URLs don't save when adding by identifier

I have had this experience for a while but here's a current link that Zotero doesn't capture when I try to add by pasting the URL in the identifier: https://qz.com/africa/2145285/nigerian-startups-with-abusive-cultures-have-been-put-on-notice
  • To my knowledge, the issue arises because this URL is not a valid identifier for Zotero’s ‘Add by Identifier’ feature. Zotero requires standardized identifiers such as a DOI, ISBN, PMID, or similar. Since the link you shared does not provide such an identifier, Zotero cannot capture it through that method. You may try saving it with a Zotero Connector, or otherwise enter the metadata manually.
  • I assume this is referring to the web library, where URLs are allowed in Add by Identifier. @Fantenyimapa, be sure to always say when you're talking about the web library, since otherwise people will assume you're referring to the desktop app.

Adding by URL in the Zotero web library or ZoteroBib is always going to be less reliable, since some sites will block Zotero's cloud-based requests. That's the case here. @Fantenyimapa, you'll want to use the Zotero Connector and the desktop app if possible.

  • Thank you @dstillman. I'd honestly forgotten about the Zotero connector.
