Step by step process to export references with abbreviated journal names

Hi all,

I tried the following workflow:

- Install the Better BibTeX for Zotero plugin

- Enable Preferences → Better BibTeX → Automatically abbreviate journal titles if no abbreviation is set

- Create a saved search or collection containing the references I want to export

- Right-click the selected items and choose Export Items…

- Select one of: BibTeX, BibLaTeX, Better BibTeX, Better BibLaTeX

- Enable Abbreviate journal titles in the export options

- Save the resulting .bib file

However, the journal titles are not abbreviated in the exported file.

What is wrong with this process?
  • I cannot reproduce with the same setup. (Tried on a collection I have removed all the items journal abbreviation prior to the export.) /journaltitle is abbreviated in the created .bib file.

    Zotero 8.0-beta.19
    BBT 7.0.68
  • Thank you @poettli, I am going to try with Zotero 8.0 beta version.
  • I confirm that it works with the Zotero 8.0 beta version, thank you!
  • To be clear, I have used the beta because this is the only version I have installed on the machine I used to test at the time I wrote my reply.

I just tried with Zotero 7.0.30 and BBT 7.0.68, and the export also has the journal titles abbreviated. So not sure what was the source of the initial problem.
