Paragraph style for bibliography != default

I'm using Zotero 2.0b7.6 with the OO 3.0a5 plugin w/ OO 3.01 on WinXP.

When I insert a bibliography, the paragraph style used is "default", which is often used for other purposes. As bibliography paragraphs typically have unique formatting requirements (e.g., negative first-line indents), setting the default style to meet those needs causes trouble elsewhere. I can manually apply my Bibliography paragraph style, but it gets overridden when the bibliography updates.

Is there any reason Zotero couldn't insert the bib paragraphs as "BibliographyZ" or some such?

    Actually Zotero doesn't change the default style itself. I just did a quick check of this and it is applying paragraph formatting to the lines in the bibliography rather than altering your default paragraph style.
    I'm guessing the problem here is user control. I certainly don't want my default style modified without my permission. Although using paragraph formatting instead of having a dedicated style goes against the grain of how OO is supposed to work, given that it's not altering your default style, does it matter?

    @Cris, the new CSL processor, which should start appearing in the next version after 2.0, sometime later this year, will deliver rendered citation data in a form that lends itself to styling in the plugin, with named environments around blocks of text requiring special treatment in the layout, and with any necessary parameters (such as CSS or RTF styling code) supplied separately from the text itself.

    Here is a proof of concept page cobbled together during development (note, though, that the actual CSL syntax and markup adopted in CSL 1.0 differ slightly from the examples under that link).

    What I'm asking is that it insert the paragraphs in a style OTHER than 'default' so I can modify *that* style without affecting 'default'.

    Word 2007 has a bibliography style built in, it is dependent on the Normal style ("based on Normal" in Word speak) with no modifications, so giving the Zotero bibliography this style shouldn't change anything for users who don't use styles (although how anyone can remain sane using word without styles is beyond me).

    I can't speak for OO or older versions of word.

    Frank's new CSL processor and CSL 1.0 might partially obviate the need for this however, if I have understood Frank's post correctly.
