iOS Debug Log: D756507364
Highlights made in PDFs are not editable and are lost after closing the item.
In multiple articles, I’ve created highlights as usual (selecting text then tapping highlight, or turning on the highlight tool and then selecting text). When I then tap the highlight to edit (change color, add a note), I do not get the pop-up menu to make changes. E.g. Tapping the highlight does not select it.
If I close the article (return to library view) and open it again, any highlights I’ve made disappear.
I’ve force closed the app on iPad, reopened, opened the same article, and am then able to make highlights then select and edit them. After closing the item and opening it again, the highlights are still there.
But if I open another PDF for a different article/item and make highlights, I once again am not able to select or edit them and they disappear upon closing the article.
In other words, I have to force closed the Zotero app for every new article I want to annotate for the highlights to be saved.
FWIW, happen to be on a flight using onboard WiFi… I’d assume annotations are saved locally on device, but thought I’d mention in the off-chance there’s something happening during sync. I have full internet access (not just messaging or inflight entertainment) and other sync services (iCloud, etc.) are working normally.

Upgrade Storage
When I notice that my highlights are not persisting or editable, I attempt multiple times to close the PDF, re-open it, then test a new highlight to see if it's editable and persisting. After doing this multiple times, I am eventually able to highlight normally (highlights are editable and persist). I am currently unable to trust that when I open a PDF, highlights will persist by default. I now need to test this first each time I open a PDF (then repeat the process of closing and reopening the PDF multiple times until highlights persist), otherwise I risk losing all highlights as has happened to me a few times today with different documents.
Since both of you are using the beta, can you please switch to the production release, and see if it happens there as well?
