Zotero 7 has no access to synology nas d218+

The new version cannot access my server (Synology NAS D218+) where the Zotero files are stored. The old Zotero 6 has no problem.
I first saved the files locally as a test and started the new Zotero without any problems. Then I re-entered the server in the settings and again could not access it. However, since I need central storage, therefore the new version is unusable for me.
I work with a macmini.
Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do? Thank you for your help.
  • What do you mean by "cannot access"?

    Can you provide a Debug ID for a Verify Server attempt that fails?

    I have got this message from debug mode, if I start Zotero 7:

    JavaScript Error: "Could not open connection to /Volumes/Werkstatt/Zotero/zotero.sqlite: 2153971714" {file: "resource://gre/modules/Sqlite.sys.mjs" line: 1336}]

    appName => Zotero, version => 7.0.29 (ARM64), os => macOS 13.7.8, locale => de, extensions =>

    and this message, if I start Zotero 7:

  • Oh, you mean you're storing the data directory there. See https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/500418/#Comment_500418
  • Thanks for letting me know. I understand that it's a problem with the sql-lite version. Since Zotero 6 works without any problems, I'll wait and see if it works in one of the next 7 versions.
  • It's not really a problem of version, it's a problem with SQLite in general - some versions are just more likely to break earlier.
    You should simply not have your main Zotero directory on a remote drive. What you can do with more confidence is keep your PDFs there as linked files https://www.zotero.org/support/attaching_files#linked_files
  • Thanks for pointing that out. However, if I keep the main Zotero directory locally, I have to synchronize the entries via the Zotero servers. That's exactly what I don't want. Until now, all access has been via the local network. If the newer versions of sql-lite are even more unstable than the older ones, perhaps it would be best not to use them. ... except you were already at risk with the old version. The "my database has been corrupted in a network drive" topic is recurrent, see for example https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/406260#Comment_406260

    It can take time, sometimes years, before a problem occurs (SQLite is not so fragile in many cases) but most stories start with "it was running fine until now".
  • "it was running fine until now"...Oh yes, I've had the database corrupt twice, but I was able to rebuild it using the Zotero tool. And I make a backup every day (yes, really).
  • Commitment and responsible risk management, I respect that :-)
  • Thank you :-)
