"No app found to open web pages or restriction is in place."

Hi,

I have two devices, one is Android 14 and another is Android 15. Both meet the same problems that when opening a link, it shows "No app found to open web pages or restriction is in place."

Idealy, if I open a link, it will direct me to an app instead of a browser (if the link is a youtube video and I installed Youtube, it will direct me to watching the videos in Youtube App instead of going to a browser).

After I tested around, I found that problems are associated with "Settings-Apps-Default apps-Opening Links" in Android settings. Under this section, you can configure that when you open a link, it will go to the app instead of going to a browser. So for example, I want to open an Audible Book. I can manually add a new item. The category is document. After I create the new item, I copy and paste the audible book's URL. Then if in "opening links" section "opening supported links" is enabled for Audible Then when I tap the document, it will show "No app found to open web pages or restriction is in place." After I disabed "opening supported links" for Audible and tap the document again, it will open the link in default browser instead of going to the Audible apps. So, is there a way that it could be fixed so that when I tap the document, it will go to Audible app when"opening supported links" is enabled for Audible in "opening links" section.

This is the video preview for this error:

Failed one: Debug ID D982413643

Links to Google Docs also does not work

I also tested with Google Drive, Word, Excel, and they can be used (open the link and it will guide me to these apps).

Successful one: Debug ID D428865826

Thanks
  • Can you try the latest beta version and let us know if that fixes it?
  • It mentioned "Beta program is full" and I cannot download the latest beta version.
  • Sorry, try again now.

Hi, I tested it across my android phones and the latest beta version fixed the issues I had before. Thanks, though I can not update Zotero beta version in my android tablet.

But there is an edge case. If the url does not contain https:// or http:// header, like "www.youtube.com", the error will still pop up.

The debug id is D1803134327. (If the url is "www.youtube.com", a popup will appear notifying errors)

I don't know if this is a bug or not. But if the url contains https:// or http:// header, it worked perfectly in the latest version.
