Metadata Clears

Report IDs: 36116172 & 219630188
Zotero 7.0.27 (64-bit) - Windows
Browser: Firefox
Plugins: Zutilo Utility for Zotero (although this was happening before I had this plugin)

I apologize in advance if this issue has already been reported. I have had this issue for the past several months where I will import a paper using the Firefox plugin and I edit the metadata for a paper that has already been imported completely (I wait for the pdf to download). Then a few minutes later the metadata I edited with be reverted back to its previous version. I can usually tell when it will clear or not depending on whether it is giving me suggestions to complete the field (e.g., fields like Proceedings Title, Place, Publisher). If it gives me suggestions, it usually (or always?) keeps the new information. If it doesn't, it usually clears it.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Zotero
2. Open Firefox & navigate to article
3. Click Zotero plugin to import article
4. Back in Zotero: wait until article is imported and pdf is downloaded
5. Click on new article and edit any of the information under "Info"
6. Wait a few minutes or restart Zotero
7. Metadata will be reverted back to original information.

I'm guessing that this could be happening because it's running some process in the background but still lets me input information. I'd appreciate any insight you might have!
  • Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) from Zotero for reproducing this?
  • Okay, I was able to get it to do it after a little while. But throughout it just takes so long for the metadata to propagate from the right column to the list in the center column.
    Debug ID: D263649705
  • Using data directory G:\My Drive\Zotero
Cached 748 translators in 16881 ms
Loaded itemData in My Library in 27566 ms
Assuming 1) this is an external drive, 2) this isn't an SSD, and 3) your internal disk is an SSD, you should move Zotero back to the default location on the local disk. Various operations are running extremely slowly for you.
  • Ah okay. That makes sense. Yeah, I moved it to an external drive originally to share across computers but it wasn't working anyway so I just use Zotero for the one computer. No sense in keeping it there; I'll move it back to the default location. Thanks for figuring this out!
