Problem with the indexation of attached PDF files (Full Text Cache)

Dear Sir

I need your help: Zotero is not properly indexing my attached PDF files. The indexation process stops whenever it encounters a large PDF file, and after that no other file, no matter how small, is indexed, unless Zotero is reinitialized. Then the indexation resumes, until is stops again in the same (or other) large PDF file. Increasing (or reducing, or zeroing) the number of pages/words to be indexed in Edit --> Settings --> Full Text Cache --> Rebuild Index (or Index Unindexed Items) didn't help. The same when trying to re-index the files manually. Is there a way to solve this problem? Is there a way to bypass large problematic files, leaving then without an index? It would be better than to have many small files without an index. Thanks in advance.

PS: I sent an error report in Help --> Report Errors... after I tried to re-index manually one of my large problematic files. It returned the number 1192959397.

  • Can you provide a Debug ID for it happening?
  • Sorry, I mistook the Report Error for a Debug ID. Now goes the Debug ID number D1665518376. Many thanks.
  • How large are those PDF files, and how many pages do they have?

Could you upload one of them somewhere and send a link to support@zotero.org together with a link to this thread?
  • 1. The Debug ID number D1665518376 corresponds to my attempt to index a file with 3,037 pages and 139,276,337 bytes. The file was uploaded and the link sent to support@zotero.org.

    2. The message sent to support@zotero.org contains also the link to this thread:
    https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/127779/problem-with-the-indexation-of-attached-pdf-files-full-text-cache#latest
(tell me please if this is wrong).

    3. This information may be useful, perhaps: I have other large files that were correctly indexed by Zotero in the past (not now, however). For instance, a file with
15,164 pages and 233,788,864 was correctly indexed in the past.

    Many thanks.
  • The issue will be fixed in the next Zotero Beta update.
  • Many thanks, martynas_b.
  • OK, you can try the latest Zotero beta.
  • I downloaded and installed an old version of Zotero (6.0.27) , and this solved my problem with the indexations. I always update Zotero to what -- I think -- is called "release versions", supposing they are more stable, etc. Am I wrong? Should I download the beta version or should I wait? Thanks for you all, anyway.
